Dave Anderson

Playing at Cramlington since around 2000.

I started to play my first guitars around about 1965, the usual stuff - Beatles, Stones, Animals etc.

Then in 1969 I heard something wonderful - a guy singing just by himself, his name was James Taylor. That was the time I discovered the acoustic guitar, but also discovered that I would never be as good as him and the likes of John Denver, and Don McLean. But, still, I tried to be just that

In 1999 I discovered Ewen Carutthers and Mike Silver. I was blown away by them... how could it be that they were just as good as the famous stars, but I had never heard of them before. And when I talked to them I realised that I too could write the things that I felt within my heart and soul - and, even though I know in my heart I will never be as good as them, surely this is the true essence of folk music... to take what you feel inside and commit it to music to share with others.

A very wise man told me 'Folk music is music played by folk' - labels such as traditional or contemporary are unimportant... what folk write today is contemporary, but in a matter of years it will become traditional.
