I decided to write something about last Tuesday. Not so much a review as a reflection on the evening!!

There's something about Cramlington Folk Club that makes it a great place to go on a Tuesday night - and last Tuesday was no exception.

Could it be that no matter how many or few people turn up we always have a great night of entertainment?

Could it be that we have a solid core of excellent singers, not only the Cramlingtonians but also those who enjoy the atmosphere of the club so much that they travel from Ponteland, Alnwick and further afield - even South West Denton! - to be counted amongst the residents.

Or could it be that they are all uncannily called John - John Redpath, John Burns, John Richardson (JR), John Baston...or simply have a name that begins with 'J'...Jimmy, jiva (Jimmy and Val), Jeff.. and it's a little known fact that Ken's real name begins with a 'J'.

All the residents have a wealth of songs and tunes from which to draw and we were well entertained with blues, contemporary, country and traditional music. I would like to mention John Gibson's debut performance of 'The Nightingale', Allan (resident Scot) Savage singing an Irish song and a rendering of 'Carrickfergus'  from Ken, last heard in Fuerte Ventura!! One of our few female singers, Carol, played a mean double bass and hopefully her voice will get better soon.

Davey Page sets the gear up every Tuesday afternoon - some say he has nothing better to do with his time now he's retired, but I know that he has to give up a golfing opportunity! Thank you, Dave. Thanks also, to jiva for managing the website - without them I wouldn't need to be writing this.

Lastly, if you come along on a Tuesday night make sure you ask Keith if you can draw the raffle. It's the best way of ensuring you win it..! Thanks to Keith and Audrey, there's always a big gap at the door when you're not there. And if I haven't mentioned you by name, apologies - I didn't write anything down on the night!!
